Boettcher Concert Hall
The Colorado Symphony's home, built in the round so nobody sits far back.
Opened in 1978 as the first symphony hall in the round in the country, and the geometry still does the work: about eighty percent of the seats sit within 65 feet of the stage, so you hear an orchestra rather than a recording of one. The Colorado Symphony plays most of its season here, classics through film scores and the occasional electronic collaboration. The building is showing its age. The Symphony has costed a $120 million renovation and is selling naming rights on parts of the hall to close a $15 million gap, so the room you hear now is the pre-renovation one.
Why go. Close-range orchestral sound at prices that would be triple on either coast.
Seats behind and above the orchestra are the cheapest in the house and you spend the night watching the conductor's face.
