Hotel Teatro
Downtown's original boutique hotel, in the 1911 Denver Tramway building.
The Denver Tramway Company put up this building in 1911 to run the streetcars; it became Hotel Teatro in 1999 and is still the original boutique hotel downtown. Just over a hundred rooms, tall ceilings, thick old walls, and a location that is the whole argument: you are directly across 14th Street from the Denver Center, which is why the packages are built around show nights and why the bar is still going when curtain comes down. The Nickel handles food, a seasonal American room off the lobby. On a block of flags and conference towers, it reads as a building with a past.
Why go. The only downtown hotel where the theater really is across the street.
The Superior Queens are the rooms with balconies; ask for one facing 14th if you want to watch the Arts Complex empty out.
