Maria Empanada

Argentine empanadas baked all day, from breakfast through early dinner

Empanadas done the Argentine way - crimped pastry, beef, ham and cheese, spinach - plus tartas and alfajores, from a Denver company that now runs shops on South Broadway, at City Park, in Stanley Marketplace and at the airport. The Platte Street counter opens at 7:30 on weekdays and works equally as breakfast, a fast lunch, or a boxed dozen to take somewhere else. It shares the 1700 Platte building with Daughter Thai, one door down, at the foot of the 16th Street bridge.

Why go. The best five-dollar thing to eat within sight of the bridge.

Buy a dozen boxed to go - they reheat properly in an oven and cover tomorrow too.
