My Brother's Bar
Serving since 1873, no sign outside, classical music inside, Neal Cassady's bar tab framed on the wall.
There has been a bar on this corner since 1873, which makes it the oldest continuously operating bar in Denver, and it has never bothered with a sign. Inside is a dark wood room with classical music on the speakers, a burger that people cross town for (order the JCB, with jalapeño cream cheese), a shaded back patio, and a framed letter from Neal Cassady asking a friend to settle his tab here. Jim and Angelo Karagas ran it from 1970 until Jim's death; his daughter and her husband keep it going. It sits at the foot of the Highland Bridge across from Confluence Park, which makes it the natural end of the walk from Union Station over the river.
Why go. The best bar in the neighborhood and one of the best in the West, and it does not care whether you agree.
Sit on the patio in summer; it is closed Sundays, which catches everyone once.
