King Soopers Union Station
The full-size downtown grocery, sitting between the ballpark and the trains
Downtown Denver went decades without a real supermarket. This one, 46,000-odd square feet on the ground floor of an apartment building at 19th and Chestnut, finally fixed that when it opened in 2016. It has the whole Kroger apparatus: pharmacy, deli, in-store Starbucks, click-and-collect pickup. For anyone staying in a LoDo rental or living in the Union Station towers, it is the only place within walking distance to buy a week of food rather than a snack. Utilitarian, busy at 6pm, and genuinely useful.
Why go. It is the only full grocery store you can walk to from Union Station.
Go before 4pm or after 8pm; the post-work crush between five and seven backs up every register.
