Savoy at Curtis Park

The building permit dates it to 1889 - a two-storey brick business block that cost $9,000 to put up, with a single name, Scholtz, listed as the architect. The second floor was built as a private social club with a dance floor, and two chapters of the Foresters of America met there weekly around 1900. From 1948 to 1975 the ground floor made Rodelle vanilla extract. It came back as a social hall and artist space, running performances, residencies and weddings, and the renovation kept the turn-of-the-century detail rather than scraping it off.
